If you are in overall good health and don’t smoke, you can be eligible for implant-retained dentures. There are a few more things to consider.
Bone to Support
You'll need sufficient jawbone density to securely hold onto the implants. Otherwise, you may require bone grafting in advance.

If your current denture clicks, shifts, or needs adhesive to stay put, implants offer much more stability.

How we place implant-retained dentures
You will receive implant-retained dentures as part of a personalised treatment plan. The basic steps for getting them with us are as follows.
1Consultation
Consultation and planning
We review your health history, take X-rays or a scan, and check your bone and gum health to work out how many implants you'll need.
2Customisation
Customising your implant-retained denture
We take impressions of your mouth to customise your denture, so it looks natural and suits your face. You can discuss the shade and fit here.
3Placement
Implant placement
A surgical procedure first places the implants into your jawbone. This is usually a 1 or 2-hour appointment under a local anaesthetic.
4Restoration
Healing time
Your dentist will give you advice on recovery for the following weeks. You may wear a temporary denture during this time for immediate smile restoration.
5Aftercare
Fitting your denture
Once your dentist determines your surgical sites have healed, you will receive your custom-designed dentures that will be fitted over the implants, restoring your smile.

Common questions about implant-retained dentures
Regular dentures rest on the gums alone and aren’t fixed to anything below the gumline, while Implant-retained dentures clip onto implants fixed in the jawbone. That is why they don’t slip or shift like regular dentures.
Yes, they clip onto the implants but come out just like a regular denture for cleaning.
Yes, the All-on-4 dental bridge is fixed in place, and only a dentist can remove it. On the other hand, implant-retained dentures are designed to be taken out daily by you.
Some downsides include needing to be removed daily for cleaning, and replacements for the clip-in attachments that tend to wear down quickly over time. They also don't bite quite as firmly as a fixed option like All-on-4.
It is extremely rare for implants to fail (success rates sit around 95 to 98%), but if one does fail, it is removed. Your dentist will recommend other means to anchor your dentures.
