Suitability first
Composite bonding uses a tooth-coloured resin to change the way one or multiple teeth look. A dentist applies the material directly to teeth and then sculpts and polishes it to correct chips, gaps, discolouration or minor misalignment.
Composite bonding doesn’t require surgery or significant enamel removal.
he bonding can be applied in a single appointment, usually about an hour
Because the underlying tooth is largely unchanged, the resin is removable.
If the bonding chips, a dentist can repair just the affected area without replacing the whole tooth.
Composite bonding cost in the UK is considerably cheaper than veneers or implants.
A properly done teeth bonding procedure can last from 5 to 7 years.

Composite bonding covers a range of treatments. The right one depends on what you're looking to correct.
| Gap Closure | Edge Bonding | Crooked Tooth Bonding | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it treats | Closes visible spaces (diastemas) between teeth | Repairs chipped, worn, or fractured tooth edges/tips | Masks minor misalignment or rotation by reshaping the tooth |
| Removability | Composite resin is placed in the middle, closing the gap | Resin is layered onto the damaged edge and sculpted | Resin is added asymmetrically to one or more surfaces |
| Typical candidates | Small-to-moderate gaps (not a substitute for orthodontics) | Recent chips or gradual edge wear | Mild rotation or overlap only |
| Sessions & chair time | Usually 1 visit, 30-60 minutes per gap | Usually 1 visit, 20-45 minutes per tooth | Usually 1 visit, but often longer (45-90 min) |

Patient Questions

It's a cosmetic treatment, resin applied straight onto the tooth to sort out chips, cracks, gaps or discolouration. No drilling, no lab-made crowns, just resin shaped and blended by hand until it disappears into the rest of your smile. At Complete Smiles, that's exactly the finish we're going for, bonding that nobody clocks as bonding.
No, not for most people. There's no cutting or reshaping of the tooth itself, so anaesthetic usually isn't needed at all. Honestly, that's part of why it stays such an affordable option here: less time in the chair, less complexity, lower cost.
Depends entirely on the job, one chip is a five-minute fix, a full smile's worth of teeth takes longer. Even so, most patients are in and out in a single visit. That's part of what keeps it such good value, less time booked in means less on the bill.
A few years, often longer, if you treat it well. Steer clear of biting into pens, ice, or anything else you shouldn't really be chewing on anyway, keep brushing and flossing as normal, and it'll hold up fine. Curious what it costs over that lifespan? That's a consultation conversation, and we'll map out a payment plan while we're at it.
No. If anything, it's about as gentle as cosmetic dentistry gets. Your dentist barely touches the tooth underneath, just a light roughening so the resin has something to grip, nothing like the enamel removal you'd see with veneers or crowns. The only real risk comes afterwards: chomping down on something hard or grinding at night can chip the bonding itself. The tooth underneath, though? Untouched.
Impossible to say without knowing your teeth, one small chip is nothing like reshaping six front teeth. Rather than throw out a number that probably won't match your case, we'll work out an accurate quote together at your consultation, payment plans included if that helps.
