Patient Questions

Honestly, there isn't one brand that suits everyone. It comes down to your teeth, your bite, and what result you're after. Your dentist will look at all of this at your consultation and tell you which system gives the most predictable outcome for your case. Don't get too hung up on the brand name, a well planned treatment matters far more.
It varies a lot from patient to patient. Some people are done in a few months. Others, especially with more complicated bites, are in aligners for a year or longer. You won't get an exact number until your dentist has had a proper look, but they'll talk you through a realistic timeline once they have.
Aim for 20 to 22 hours a day. Basically, only take them out for meals, drinks other than water, and brushing. Skip this too often and your treatment slows down or drifts off track, so it's worth building the habit early.
A bit of tightness after swapping to a new set is completely normal, that's just your teeth moving. Most people actually find aligners easier to live with than metal braces, since there's nothing digging into your cheeks or lips.
They can, indirectly. Straight teeth are simply easier to brush and floss properly. Once crowding or overlap has been sorted, there are fewer tight spots for plaque to build up, which is good news for your gums long term.
They look almost the same, but the job they do isn't. Aligners move your teeth, that's the active part of treatment. Retainers come afterwards, and their only role is stopping your teeth from drifting back once they're sitting where they should.
Yes, and don't skip this step. Teeth have a habit of shifting back if nothing's holding them in place. They'll tell you exactly how often to wear yours to keep your new smile put.
A few tell-tale signs, really. Each new aligner should feel snug, almost too snug, for the first day or so, that's normal and means it's doing its job. Beyond that, watch for the obvious stuff over the weeks: gaps closing up, crowding easing off, your smile looking that bit more even each time you check. Your dentist keeps tabs on it too, comparing your teeth to the digital plan at every review so nothing's left to guesswork.
Take them out first, is the short answer. Wine, spirits, cocktails, anything dark or sugary basically, will stain the plastic and sit against your teeth in ways that aren't great for decay. Have your drink, rinse or brush if you can manage it, then pop the aligners straight back in. Just watch that a big night out doesn't eat too far into your 20 to 22 hours.
