Full Mouth Implants vs Dentures vs Fixed Bridge

Choosing between traditional full-arch implants and other options comes down to bone volume, stability and function. Here's how our dentists explain the difference to patients weighing up their options.

Full Mouth Implants
Stability
Permanently fixed to the jawbone, no movement
How it's held in place
Anchored directly into the jawbone via implants
Comfort
Feels and functions like natural teeth
Eating
Full biting force, no dietary restrictions
Traditional Dentures
Stability
Sits on the gums, can slip or click
How it's held in place
Held by suction or adhesive
Comfort
Can cause gum irritation and sore spots
Eating
Limited biting force, some foods best avoided
Fixed Bridge
Stability
Fixed in place, doesn't move
How it's held in place
Anchored to implants or natural teeth on either side
Comfort
Comfortable once fitted, no irritation from movement
Eating
Good biting force, close to natural

Patient Questions

Common questions about full mouth dental implants

Clinician speaking with a patient

The cost for a full set of implants starts from £10,500 for All-on-Four and can go up to £20,000 for All-on-6 implants. These prices can vary depending on which type of full-mouth implants are chosen.

Yes, but it is rarely done unless there is a very serious complication. It requires surgical extraction of the implants.

The full mouth implants can last a lifetime with proper brushing and flossing, while the dental crowns and bridges may need replacing after 10-15 years, depending on the materials used.

Dentists generally look for at least 6 millimetres of bone width before placing an implant. If less than that remains at the site, a bone graft is usually needed to build up the area first. However, you can skip bone grafting with certain implant solutions, such as All-on-4, but it is not guaranteed.

You should care for your full mouth implants with daily brushing, proper flossing, and regular check-up appointments.

No, they need only the same care as natural teeth, which is to say daily brushing and flossing.

The standard full mouth rehabilitation procedure uses between 4 and 8 implants per arch, and it’s unheard of to use more than 8 per jaw. The number of implants required for full mouth tooth replacement depends on bone quality, the patient’s overall health, and the type of restoration.
